Lesson 1 – Play the tonic…walk the chord

I’ll Buy Boots for Maggie is a simple and catchy melody! Try to play the root of the chords with us here by playing the note that is the name of the chord on the lead sheet. For Am, just play an A for example. When you get done with that…try finding the 3rd and 5th of the chord. We’re just trying to “feel” when the chord changes occur, a skill that as it turns out is one of the most important skills you will ever develop as a musician because it will help you predict what’s going to happen in songs you may have never heard! (Use all these lesson tricks on ALL the songs in the method for premium musicianship!)

“Annie and her band did a fabulous job of engaging students from all ages of our string feeder area elementary through high school. The students and audience members loved the band’s performance and the high energy they brought to our concert! The students had so much fun learning new songs by rote and the pieces were well-arranged for a variety of levels of playing.”
