BEGINNING JAZZ MODULE: Lesson 6

Lesson 6 – Arpeggio Use in Improvisation

For the last lesson in this module I wrote the tune Play It! as a way to practice using arpeggio ideas over chord changes. In this lesson I go through all of the three note triads in a C major scale and some variations. You can use all of those triads while improvising on the A sections of the tune. Experiment and see what sounds good, what sounds not so good, and mix them up a bit to see what you can come up with.

“Annie and her band did a fabulous job of engaging students from all ages of our string feeder area elementary through high school. The students and audience members loved the band’s performance and the high energy they brought to our concert! The students had so much fun learning new songs by rote and the pieces were well-arranged for a variety of levels of playing.”
