Lesson 18

Faded Love: Shifting Double Stops

TECH CHECK INSTRUCTIONS:

Shifting double stops bring two major techniques together. The B part of the break on Faded Love requires a relaxed hand in addition to the ability to hold the fiddle without the aid of one’s LH wrist. Before you try both notes at the same time, try just shifting and staying in tune. It could be helpful to use an electric tuner as you begin this Tech Check in order to make sure you are in tune. Then, with a relaxed hand, add the second note. This will allow you to develop your ear and listen to both notes at the same time. Fingering for double stops is third finger on the low string and first on the high string of the two.
